Laughing At Our Mistakes

Have you ever done something that was so incredibly embarrassing that you just wanted to crawl into a corner and delete the replay from your mind? This seems to be a daily occurrence for me lately haha. These moments aren’t all at the level I just described, but they are embarrassing nonetheless.

I am a Paraeducator at a small school and I was helping out in sixth grade math the other day. Shortly into the period, one of the kids called me over to help out with a problem he was struggling with. I helped him out and explained what needed to be done: Long Division. You know… The one where you put the number in the box and the other outside and figure how many times it will go. Well, halfway through the problem, I forgot how to do long division. This wouldn’t be such a big deal, until the kid said, “It’s okay, I can ask the other teacher (my boss).” Ooof, that was like a dagger in my ego.

Honestly, we all mess up. We are all human yet, I’m learning the way we view ourselves and others in those times is important and not to be looked over.

When we can laugh at our embarrassing mistakes, we can release the temptation to hold shame in our hearts.

When you put your faith in Christ, the weight of the World is off your shoulders. There is no need to hold onto your interpretation of other people’s thoughts of you. We can live free from the insecurity that these embarrassing moments can bring. When we know our own value, other people’s opinion of us can not make or break our self-worth.

Check out Ephesians 1:3-14

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will— to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves.  In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace  that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and understanding,  he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfillment—to bring unity to all things in heaven

and on earth under Christ.

In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, in order that we, who were the first to put our hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory. And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—

to the praise of his glory.

God defines who we are, for he is our creator.

I hope you can get a good laugh today, I know I did.
